VOLUNTARY EMPLOYMENT
1.1 No slave labor or forced employment shall be used, including forced prison labor.
1.2 Employees shall not be required to lodge “deposits” or deposit identity documents with the employer; employees are free to leave their employment after a reasonable notice period.
2. FREEDOM OF ASSOCIATION AND THE RIGHT TO COLLECTIVE BARGAINING
2.1 Employees, without exception, have the right to form and join trade unions of their choice and to bargain collectively with employers.
2.2 The employer adopts an open attitude towards the activities of trade unions and their organizational activities.
2.3 Workers’ representatives are not discriminated against and have access to carry out their representative functions in the workplace.
2.4 Where the right to freedom of association and collective bargaining is restricted by law, the employer shall not hinder the development of parallel means for independent and free association and bargaining, but shall facilitate such development.
3. SAFE AND HYGIENIC WORKING CONDITIONS
3.1 A safe and hygienic working environment shall be provided, taking into account prevailing knowledge of the industry and any specific hazards.
3.2 Adequate steps shall be taken to prevent accidents and injury to health arising out of, associated with, or occurring in the course of work, by minimizing the causes of hazards inherent in the working environment.
3.3 Workers shall receive regular and documented health and safety training; such training shall be repeated for new and reassigned workers.
3.4 Access to clean toilet facilities and potable water shall be provided, and, if appropriate, sanitary facilities for food storage.
3.5 Accommodation, where provided, shall be clean, safe, and meet the basic needs of workers.
3.6 A senior management representative shall be assigned responsibility for health and safety.
4. NO CHILD LABOR
4.1 There shall be no new recruitment of child labor.
4.2 Companies shall develop or participate in policies and programs to transition any child found to be performing labor into quality education until they are no longer a child.
4.3 Children and young persons under 18 shall not be employed at night or in hazardous conditions.
4.4 These policies and procedures shall conform to ILO standards.
5. FAIR WAGES
5.1 Wages and benefits for a standard working week shall meet at least national legal standards or industry benchmarks, whichever is higher. In any event, wages should be sufficient to meet basic needs and provide some discretionary income.
5.2 All workers shall be provided with written and understandable information about their employment conditions, including wages, before entering employment and for each pay period.
6. WORKING HOURS
6.1 Working hours shall comply with national laws and collective agreements and the provisions below, whichever affords greater protection.
6.2 Working hours shall not exceed 48 hours per week excluding overtime.
6.3 Overtime shall be voluntary.
6.4 Overtime shall be used responsibly.
6.5 Total working hours shall not exceed 60 hours in any 7-day period.
6.6 Workers shall be provided at least one day off in every 7-day period.
7. NO DISCRIMINATION
7.1 No discrimination in hiring, compensation, training, promotion, termination, or retirement based on race, caste, nationality, religion, age, disability, gender, marital status, sexual orientation, union membership, or political affiliation.
8. REGULAR EMPLOYMENT
8.1 Work shall be performed on the basis of a recognized employment relationship established through national law and practice.
8.2 Employers shall not avoid obligations under labor law.
9. NO HARSH OR INHUMANE TREATMENT
9.1 Physical abuse, threats, harassment, or intimidation are strictly prohibited.
